Requirements for Legalization :
Depending on the place of residence applicants should submit their documents either to Consulate General of Afghanistan in New York or to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Afghanistan in New York in Washington, D.C. To learn to which office you have to apply, click here.
The following information describes the order of processing documents before submitting them to the Consulate General:
- Notarizing before a notary public;
- Attesting by a county clerk (public documents and court records are certified by the custodial of those records);
- Certifying at the office of the Secretary of the State in which the document is recorded;
- Certifying by the U.S. Department of State Authentications office (518 23rd Street, N.W. State Annex 1 Washington, D.C. 20520, tel. : 202-647-5002).
Documents, which have not been processed as indicated above, will not be accepted by the Consulate General.
The documents are submitted for legalization during business hours.
3) Fee: $100.00 Money order or company check.

self-addressed return envelope. You may use Certified
or Registered U.S. mail, or a Federal Express or UPS
shipping envelope.
